Last Day Net Worth: November

I promise I'm still going to update about my weekend! But this update is the last day net worth update. By tracking my net worth on the last day of the month, I hope to keep the numbers more consistent based on the usual fluctuations of paying bills and stuff like that. Without further ado... NOVEMBER!

ASSETS
Cash (checking, MMA, W2S): $39,378.98
GNMA: $8,840.65
Total Bond Index: $8,957.46
Total Stock Index: $19,507.38
Roth IRA (Target Retirement 2045): $5,229.14
403(b) (S&P 500 Index): $11,335.93

DEBT
None

So that means my total net worth for the end of November is $93,249.54 (an increase of 2.33% from last month) with $16,565.07 in retirement (an increase of 5.57% from last month) and $76,684.47 in more liquid assets (an increase of 1.66% from last month).

I'm pretty bad with math and analyzing numbers, but any increase is a good thing, right?

Today I'm grateful for: a date this week!

Best of Money Carnival

Welcome to my blog and welcome to the Best of Money Carnival this week. I volunteered to host this carnival (my first!) back in August when I saw this blog going in a whole different direction. My blog emphasizes the PERSONAL in personal finance, so that's the filter I used when selecting from a high quality group of submissions. I tried to pick articles that were well written and showed or taught me something new. I decided to list then in alphabetical order rather than rank them because I couldn't decide how to pick a winner. So here they are!

Budgets are Sexy ~ Results of the $100 Scratch Off Lottery Project
I kind of always wanted to go to town on scratch off lottery tickets. J. Money did it so I don't have to. Sorry you didn't come away with more to show for it, but props for donating the money to charity.

Bullishness ~ Are you a Gambler or Investor (A Flow Chart)
Who doesn't like flow charts? I'm a sucker for this feature in ladies magazines and I like it even better when it has to do with money!

Deposit Accounts ~ It's not Legal for Checking Accounts to Pay Interest
I had no idea! This is also a good reminder to make sure that all of your bank accounts are FDIC insured. Just because your investment is through a bank doesn't mean you are fully protected.

ETFdb ~ Ten Myths About ETF Investing
I'm embarrassed to say that I really don't know that much about ETFs, even though I see them mentioned in blogs all the time. This article helped to teach me a bit more about the topic.

Free Money Finance ~ Five Steps to Six Figures in Seven Years
Sign me up for that! Sadly, I will probably never have a six figure salary in my chosen career path. However, through careful saving and investing I think I'm on the path to that kind of income.

Frugally Green ~ Multiple Intelligences: Why You're a Green Rock Star but Suck at Saving Money
Like Tyler, I sometimes struggle with the very math-y nature of personal finance. It's so important to figure out how you learn best and use that to your advantage in life and in personal finance.

Get Rich Slowly ~ The Perfect is the Enemy of the Good
Without a doubt, I'm a perfectionist. This is a great reminder that good enough is sometimes more important than perfection.

Lazy Man and Money ~ Why I Don't Buy Digital Media
There's definitely a lot I still have to learn about digital media, but this was an interesting look at some of the drawbacks of new technology. All I know is that I'm not buying a Kindle anytime soon!

Man vs. Debt ~ There's Always an Excuse Not to Give
It's easy to say "I'll give more when... fill in the blank." This is an article that made me reevaluate my level of giving and what I can do better in the future.

Wealth Pilgrim ~ 3 Reasons Why You are a Genius for Not Investing in Gold (Now or Ever)
I always wondered about gold and why some people go so crazy for it. This article showed me that it's far too speculative for my taste. I'll keep my investments in mutual fund and bonds, thankyouverymuch!

Today I'm grateful for: hosting my first carnival. It's kind of a big deal :)

Get Rid of Stuff Sunday #20

Phew! It was a fun weekend and I will update probably Tuesday or Wednesday about my spending and such. I'm also hosting a carnival tomorrow! Stay tuned. :)

And here is the stuff I got rid of this week:

(1) Red zip up sweater. I don't think I ever really liked this top...

(2) Shirt from Delia's. I'm too old to wear clothes from that store now.

(3) Complete Idiot's Guide to Personal Finance for Your 20s and 30s. I got this book used without checking the copyright date. It's from the 1990s and completely out of date. Oh well... it was probably only $2.

(4) A book from college called "Writing in the Workplace." It's also out of date. So of out date that it doesn't even list google as a search engine.

(5) A vase. It super pretty, but it contained flowers given to me by the ex who is now engaged. I need to purge everything that reminds me of him from my life. It's just easier that way.

(6 and 7+) Some random food that I haven't eaten that I plan to donate to a food drive that is going on right now

Today I'm grateful for: Time with family and friends. High school memories.

Do you Black Friday?

I did a crazy Black Friday shopping experience with a girlfriend once. She and her mom would go every year, but this particular year her mother had to go to a funeral and couldn't go shopping. I offered to go in her place. We woke up at 5am to start finding deals. It was terrible. The shops were all crowded. The bargains weren't that amazing. People were rude and pushy and frenzied. It just wasn't all that fun.

I vowed that I would not go Black Friday shopping again unless I really needed something that I could get at a good discount only on that particular day (probably not until I need expensive things for a house or I have kids). I love shopping, but not when it feels stressful and hurried and there are long lines. No Black Friday for me!

Are you going shopping on Black Friday?

Today I'm grateful for: seeing my family tomorrow and finally getting to meet my cousin's new baby.

100th Post!

It's been 100 posts, dear readers! Hard to believe I've been blogging here since May. I thought it would be nice to look back with some of my milestones and look ahead toward the future.

My list of firsts:
First comment on my first post from Wren Caulfield. I felt so popular!
First post with comments in the double digits: No Spend. Felt even more popular... you like me! You really like me! :)
My first Get Rid of Stuff Sunday. I was so proud that I got rid of more than 7 items! If only I knew how hard it was going to get...
My first carnival. This was before I hit my grove. I'm kind of embarassed about that article now.
Looking forward for the blog...
I want to keep doing a lot of what I'm doing, but continue to grow and evolve. I want to:
(1) move towards being more organic, green, and environmentally friendly
(2) continue to simplify, minimize and declutter my life
(3) track my net worth and watch my money grow
(4) buy a home (likely condo) of my own and write about the entire process
(5) find my next job position and settle in
(6) find that right guy and get to plan a wedding and our lives together
(7) find joy and color in my daily life
(8) save, save, save!
(9) do a little bit of traveling and write about that
and to keep this a nice round list...
(10) learn more about myself

Today I'm grateful for: milestones.

Get Rid of Stuff Sunday #19

Clothing purge this week.

(1) Pair of black open toe shoes. I haven't worn them in so long that they are dusty. That's kind of sad.

(2) Gray top. I love this top but it is too big and really doesn't fit properly. I think they will accept it for consigning...

(3 and 4) Belts. One used to be my mom's. One I think I got when I was 15. Nuff said.

(5) Black pants. I thought that I got rid of these already because they were hiding at the bottom of a pile of shorts. I've been okay without them, so I'm going to give them up.

(6) Black flats. I think I've worn these to death. The soles are starting to tear off.

(7) Cranberry-colored shortsleeved top. It makes my boobs look weird.

Today I'm grateful for: trivia and happy hours.

October

I'm a little late this month on posting my spending from last month. Mostly due to that stupid $30 I was disputing for that terrible speed dating event. Good news is I got back the $30 with no problem. Hooray! So here is October....

QUICK SNAPSHOT
Total Income: $2,932.43
Total Expenses: $2,123.84
NET (Income - Expenses): $808.59

INCOME
Wages: $2,561.02
Medical Reimbursement: $114.96
Extra income: $256.45 (got paid for teaching at the high holidays, selling clothes)
Monthly Total: $2,932.43

HOME EXPENSES
Rent $850.00
Renters Insurance/Lifelock: $99.00 (I feel more secure having lifelock because I know I'm protecting my identity and my good credit history. It's $99 once a year and I think that's a small price to pay for credit monitoring. They send me my credit report every year so I don't have to think about it and they put a freeze on your credit so that no one can open a credit card without you authorizing it.)
Electricity: $26.79 (much lower now that I'm not using the AC!)
Cell: $78.28
Cable/Internet: $87.05

TRANSPORTATION
Gas: $49.83
Bus/Taxi/Metro/Toll Fare: $23.00
Maintenance/Upkeep/Tax: $480.56 (Personal Property tax and various upkeep things)

DAILY LIVING
Groceries/Drug Stores: $145.51
Dining/Eating Out: $149.63
Laundry: $15.00
Dry Cleaning: $20.26
Clothing: $0!!!!!

HEALTH
Rx/OTC: $15.00
Co-pays: $10.00

ENTERTAINMENT
Netflix: $9.44
Movies/Music: $0.99 (I bought a song on itunes)

MISCELLANEOUS
Cash: $63.50 (Cash I took out of the bank and didn't spend)

Total Spent $2,123.84
Total Saved $808.59

So October thoughts: I'm very pleased with the amount I was able to save this month. Definitely makes up for last month. The goal is to save between $600 and $1,000 per month for the rest of the year and this month that was a WIN. Yay! I'm also really excited that I was able to do the no spend on clothes. November I did some spending on clothes so far, but nothing crazy. I really like tracking my money myself and not having some computer program do it. It keeps me honest because I know I'm going to have to face the spreadsheet and those numbers don't lie. It's really become a part of my routine. I always ask for a receipt or I jot down how much I spend and where. I feel like I miss very few expenses throughout the month, so these numbers are quite accurate.

Today I'm grateful for: the ease at which I got back that $30. Fun events around DC for young Jewish professionals.

I like/I'm good at/I'm not good at

I was talking to my yoga teacher today and she got me to thinking. She said something about knowing what you're passionate about by just the tone of voice when you talk about something. I guess that's sort of common sense. So I made some lists because that is what I'm good at doing.

Things I like:
(1) Yoga
(2) Being eco-friendly, saving the planet
(3) Personal Finance
(4) Working with teens
(5) Being Jewish
(6) Simplifying
(7) Finding deals
(8) Shopping
(9) Routine
(10) Editing papers/writing
(11) Taking care of people
(12) Reading

Things I'm good at
(1) Managing the details
(2) Being a good role model
(3) Organizing/making lists
(4) Doing things my way/on my own terms
(5) Being in charge
(6) Creating systems for doing things

Things I'm not good at
(1) Maintaining long-term relationships
(2) Pretending to be interested when I'm really not
(3) Adjusting quickly/feeling comfortable with people who are not immediately friendly and welcoming
(4) Doing things someone else's way
(5) Doing things that I HAVE to do, but don't WANT to do
(6) Being flexible
(7) Letting people get too close to me

So what kind do these characteristics say about the job I should get next?

Today I'm grateful for: color.

It's hard to be a Jew at Christmas...

It's called the December Dilemma. It's the idea that Jews are different, but we feel like we have to use Chanukah to compete with Christmas. It's tough to see all of the red and green and no mention of the menorah. It sucks when people in stores say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. I'm seeing blog posts about saving for Christmas presents and cheap Christmas decorations and Christmas present ideas. Christmas decorations started arriving in stores before Halloween even ended. Where is the mention of MY holiday?

I love being Jewish, but this time of year really magnifies the differences. Especially those "keep the Christ in Christmas" people... I mean, I get it, we're in a recession. Let's stretch the holiday season as long as possible to make more money. But this is a little ridiculous.

I really like this article. While it does briefly mention Christmas, it's not about it. Rather it's about being green this holiday season and focusing on things that really matter.

I'm not sure what the point of this post is, but just be mindful that not everyone celebrates your holiday. Remember, when you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.

Today I'm grateful for: Glee! I love it.

And check me out! Thanks Almost Frugal!

Color!

I'm trying to add more color to my life. I've been reading the blog Color Me Katie and it is just so colorful and joyful. She just seems like such a free spirit, full of happiness and zest of life. I want that. I don't know that I can be as light and carefree as Katie seems to be, but I'm going to try to add more color. Right now my wardrobe is a lot of black, white and brown. I like solids and neutrals, but I'm going to funk it up with more color.

I went to Target on Monday and here are two of my purchases (cuz clearly the shopping ban of October is now done!):
Fun blue shoes for $24.99 can add a pop color to a plain outfit.
A purple purse is a fun, bright accessory. I'm still deciding on the purse. I can't tell if it looks cheap or not. It was only $19.99... Thoughts?

I also got two beautiful shirts for $17.99 each that I think I have to return. They are the same shirt in different colors; one is a beautiful vibrant blue and the other is a pattern with different shades of blue and purple. It is sleeveless with ruffles down the front. I tried to find a picture on Target's website, but I wasn't having much luck. The problem is that they are just a little too big and I think it makes me look bulky. I'm sad because they looked sooo pretty on the hangers.

Also bought an orange long sleeved shirt for $6 and a green short sleeved shirt for $6.

The coupons keep coming too. I've gotten coupons for Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft and Banana Republic in the mail in the last couple of days. I don't know if I should venture to the mall just yet. It could be dangerous! Regardless, the new rule for shopping is color, color, color!

Today I'm grateful for: vibrant color.

Get Rid of Stuff Sunday #18

On this Chai (18th) Sunday, I'm taking a break. There were some Sundays early on where I got rid of more than 7 items, so I'm going to take this week to "even it out". It's getting really tough to part with so many items. It was really easy at the beginning, but now I really need to put more thought into it. I'm definitely stopping at 27 because I don't think I can make it any further.

Today I'm grateful for: teaching life lessons

Social Security Memory Lane

Apparently about 3 months before your birthday, the Social Security Administration sends a statement with your lifetime earnings information. It's kind of cool to see the changes in my income from 1999 to today. I thought I'd share my earnings summary. It's kind of funny and kind of makes me have some warm and fuzzy memories.

1999: $80
I worked as an aide in the Religious School at my synagogue. I think I made $8 an hour and I was so psyched! I was a junior in high school.

2000: $207
Again this is from being an aide in the RS my junior and senior year.

2001: $1,528
Part of this is from the end of my senior year being an aid in the RS. And the other part is my summer job after graduating HS. I was a telemarketer. Ugh! I know. I thought it would be something good to put on my resume. It was kind of awful. And I had it on my resume for all of 5 minutes.

2002: $1,316
The summer after my freshman year of college I worked as a camp counselor. Looks like I took a pay cut from the year before, but it was sooo worth it. That was the best summer job I ever had. I met the guy I dated all through college, I got to be a color war captain, and I became closer with my sister than I ever had been.

2003: $5,807
I started interning my sophomore year. First semester I had a totally unpaid internship and then second semester I learned my lesson. My roommate hooked me up with a paid position at a non-profit organization. And despite being a non-profit, I got a small salary. I worked there part time during the summer, as well as at Urban Outfitters. Then in the Fall of my junior year, I had another paying internship at a different non-profit.

2004: $5,401
I had a internship over the summer at a PR firm. I made a $400 per week stipend. I started working at the catering company.

2005: $13,336
I had an internship the spring semester at a different PR firm. They paid me $1,000 stipend for the whole semester. I was still working the catering gig. I graduated college and was looking for work for awhile. I was working the catering gig pretty frequently during that time. Then at the very end of August I started my first, full time job. It was kind of a disaster.

2006: $28,025
This full time job lasted until my sanity didn't. I left in March of 2006 after about 7 months of awfulness. In June I started at my current job which is so far superior to that first out of college job, it's ridiculous.

2007: $38,447
Current job.

2008: $39,720
Current job with a little raise.

And there you have it. That's $133,867 earned in salary between 1999 and 2008. And lots of funny, terrible, happy memories.

Today I'm grateful for: unexpected free meals at work.

Independent Women?

Frugal Dreamer and Simple Livin' Diva both wrote about their perfect days, like I did. One thing that struck me about all three of our "perfect days" was that we all want to stay home with our kids or "kids". (In quotes since I don't have any yet... or even prospects for a husband...) I don't know about either or them, and I don't mean to put words in their mouths, but I don't know that I ever saw myself in that role. I am all about girl power and women can do anything, but the more I think about it, the more I don't want to be a working mother balancing the stress of my job and my family. I'd like to have a side gig, something small, but lucrative. And then to let my investments do their job and give me a little income too.

Is that a shift in society? Is that just a trait that female PF bloggers have? Or am I just picking from too small of a sample?

Today I'm grateful for: seeing what Netflix movie is coming next.

Perfect Day...

Frugal Dreamer's post inspired me to do some thinking. I'm at a crossroads and I don't know where to go next. I definitely need to do some thinking and exploring to move forward. I think this is a good exercise and I am going to keep doing things like this to help me get where I need to be.

Here's the gist of the exercise in her words:
The idea is to close your eyes, imagine it’s a Friday morning a few years from now (2 to 5 years from now). Now think about exactly how you’d want to spend the day, keeping in mind that it is a weekday. The idea is to plan your perfect day, using the following questions…

The point of this exercise was to get a snapshot of what you want your future to look like ... Having a clear picture of what your perfect day would include allows you to think about some long-term goals that you want to achieve. It helps you remember that sometimes going without now will help you reach those goals and really create your perfect day.

1. What time do you wake up, and how are you feeling as you greet the day?
I wake up at 8:30, refreshed and ready to go.

2. Where are you? If you’re at home, what does it look like?
I'm at home. It's a townhouse in Arlington. Very Pottery Barn-esque, but not cluttered. Sophisticated, but home-y. Warm and cosy and inviting.

3. Who is with you?
My husband and baby daughter (we're dreaming here...).

4. What kind of work are you doing? (if you have no idea what kind of work you’ll be doing or want to be doing, list the qualities you want to find in the work you do and the kind of work environment you want.)
I'm doing something freelance, part time. I'm working from home and it's flexible, but lucrative.

5. As you head out to face the day, how do you look? What are you wearing?
I look cool, calm and collected. I'm wearing something comfortable, but stylish. I look effortlessly put together.

6. How do you get to work?
I work from home.

7. When you’re done with work, how will you spend you spare time and with whom? What activities do you enjoy?
I spend my time with my family. Hubby, baby and I are very happy. We like taking walks in our neighborhood, having friends and neighbors over for dinner, playing in the park. I like my yoga and am involved at the synagogue.

8. When is your evening like?
Hubby and I play with baby and get her ready for bed. Then a sitter comes over and we have a date night. It's something simple, like dinner outside at a restaurant. Maybe we meet friends or maybe it's just the two of us.

9. When you go to bed that night, how are you feeling after spending the day doing exactly what you love?
I'm deliriously happy with my life. I have everything I want.

10. What are you most grateful for and what are you looking forward to as you go to sleep?
I'm looking forward to the future.

I know this is totally unrealistic, but a girl's allowed to dream!

Today I'm grateful for: chocolate rugalach.

NYC and other updates

I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday in New York City on a work trip. It was a relatively inexpensive weekend as far as things go, since work paid for most of my meals and hotel and entertainment.

What I spent:
$3.90 ~ bagels to take home
$5.00 ~ Rugalach and Black and White Cookies
$4.25 ~ Pumpkin Cheesecake
$2.50 ~ slice of pizza

I had a great time, but I'm happy to be home again. The more I spend weekends away, the more I realize that I need my routine. It takes me days to get back in the swing of things again.

So that whole speed dating thing was a total bust. And they never sent me the email to get in contact with the guys, not that I was really excited about any of them anyway. But that's the whole point of speed dating... to see who likes you! I sent the speed dating company 2 emails and heard nothing back, so I called my credit card company to dispute the charges. I've never done that before, but it was easy enough. Though I was kind of embarrassed when I had to tell the lady on the other end of the phone why I was disputing the charge. I can't get back the time I wasted on that terrible evening, but at least I'm going to recoup that $30.

Today I'm grateful for: being included in another carnival. The first ever carnival of female personal finance hosted by Her Every Cent Counts.

Get Rid of Stuff Sunday #17

(1-4) Freebie magnets. I have a few other magnets that have sentimental attachement. These don't. My fridge looks way uncluttered now.

(5) Mirror. I've been meaning to hang it for (this is embarassing...) almost 3 years. Clearly I'm not going to do it. It was a hand me down, so not a big deal.

(6) A floppy disk that had my college thesis on it. Ah... memories...

(7) A backup disk of my computer from 2004.

Today I'm grateful for: a wonderful weekend in nyc. more on this later.

Rent and Landlord lady

I got a letter in the mail today from my landlord lady. I saw the return address and I knew it must mean a rent increase (why else would she send me a letter?). I filled with dread. Then I opened the letter and laughed (and not just because of the terrible spelling/grammar!). My rent is going up by $25 per month. $25? That's pennies in the DC market.

I've lived in my current apartment since May 2007 (which is almost 2 and a half years) and my rent has not changed during that time at all. I pay $850 per month (which includes water, garbage removal and heat) and I know that comparable units go for $910 per month. Or at least that's about what they cost when I was looking for a place. It's an older, garden-style apartment building with 8 units.

My rent is CHEAP for this area because of the following reasons:
(1) I am not metro rail accessible (though there is a bus stop across the street)
(2) I have no garbage disposal
(3) The washer and dryer are in the basement and are coin operated
(4) There are no amenities whatsoever (no pool, no tennis courts, no real parking lot to speak of...)
(5) My kitchen is the size of a postage stamp and the cabinets have probably been there for 40 years (they've been painted so many times that they stick sometimes).
(6) There is no central air conditioning (I have window units).
(7) There's no dishwasher.

Things my landlord has done for me since I've lived here:
(1) replaced my oven.
(2) replaced my fridge
(3) fixed a leaky pipe in my bathroom ceiling making my ceiling have to be replaced twice.

Landlord lady, thanks for the insignificant increase and thanks for the new kitchen appliances. I think I made out pretty well in this deal and I hope you won't consider raising my rent again for another 2 and a half years.

Today I'm grateful for: the crazy at work. It keeps me entertained because you never know what will happen next.

November Goals

My goals this month are pretty similar to last month, but some have been changed slightly to make them more manageable.

(1) Spend less on food this month
I think this is doable since I'm out of town for 8 days this month and likely won't be paying for food during those times. I'm also working a few nights, so dinner will probably be included.
(2) Earn an extra $200 this month
This is do-able if I am able to pick up 2 shifts catering. I'm also (hopefully) babysitting once. I have a few more thing to drop off to consign.
(3) Work more effectively at the job. Keep surfing the web to a minimum.
(4) Try to have the lights off by midnight 6 nights a week.
(5) Be more proactive in making plans.
Call instead of relying on the internet. Call to chat. Try to think of "stories" to share.
(6) Keep the apartment cleaner.
Clean a different part of the apartment once a week. Straighten up every day. Continue to get rid of stuff.
(7) Cook/bake something new and different for Thanksgiving.
Last year I baked rolls from scratch! Pretty good for someone whose cooking usually involved the microwave!
(8) Write a post with some Jewish content.
I've been meaning to do this for awhile. I'm not going to go all preachy on you though!

Today I'm grateful for: perspective

October Goals Revisited

* Spend $0 on clothes this month. WIN! :)
* Earn an extra $300 this month. PARTIAL WIN. I earned about $250 extra that I have in my possesion currently. I should have gotten $50 from my re-training session with the new part-time gig, but it wasn't direct deposited in October. Hopefully I'll have it this next pay period. Also, I earned $31 from consigned clothes, but I haven't cashed out on that yet.
* Be proactive in seeking alternate sources of income. Follow up with two catering companies. Remind Religious School that I want to teach. Look at job postings. MOSTLY WIN. I am now ready to work with one of the catering companies. The second catering company was a bust, but I'm not going to be able to work for both companies so that is okay. I have a few dates on my calendar to substitue teach for the RS. Haven't really been proactive in the searching for job postings
* Work more effectively. Try to take Mondays and Wednesdays as time for second job. Delegate more work to intern. FAIL. I haven't really been doing well at intern delegating and since I am not busy at work, I am spending more time screwing around on the internet than being productive.
* Write 10-20 posts per month. Write a few posts that have Jewish content (speaking of which, are there any questions about Judaism that you have? There are no dumb questions!) Comment on at least one blog per day. MOSTLY WIN. I wrote 19 posts last month. I haven't really been great about the Jewish content stuff, but I'm not stressing about that. I've also been introduced to a ton of great blogs and have had lots to say. I think I've commented nearly every day.
* Get in bed by 11pm at least 6 nights a week. EPIC FAIL. I'm just a night person. I started setting my phone alarm for 11pm each night to make sure I was at least getting ready for bed at that time. Sometimes that worked and sometimes it didn't.
* Re initiate contact with a career coach to help me figure out where I want to be next and how I should get there. PARTIAL WIN. I had a consultation with one and she seemed nice. I can't get past the cost though. I don't know if this is something I want to do.
* Be more social. Call at least one different person every week just to say hi. Try to see at least one different person each week. PARTIAL WIN. I was better some weeks than others.
* Simplify. Declutter. Stay organized, neat and clean. Clean apartment every week. FAIL. I'm still trucking along in getting rid of stuff, but it's getting harder and harder. I really do need to clean more and keep things better organized. I feel so much better when my stuff is in order because I feel like my life is in order.
* Do something new to "green" my life. PARTIAL WIN. I've been trying to bring my own silverware to work instead of using and throwing away a plastic fork each day. I remember about 60% of the time.
* Put myself in a few situations where I could possibily meet a new boy. Maybe go on a date or two? WIN. BUT EPIC FAIL. I went on 15 dates in one night. Too bad all of them were horrific.

Get rid of stuff Sunday #16

(1) 1 purse. I have other I like way better.

(2) 1 cheap-o freebie tote. My old self thought it was a statement to wear it. Now I think it looks cheap.

(3) A t-shirt my dad got me. It screams TOURIST! and I have to secretly get rid of it so he doesn't realize.

(4) Newspapers. I have a stack of newspapers that I've been meaning to read. I'm not going to get to them and they are just making me feel like I have too much to do! Recycle.

(5) Yoga pants. This pair is just slightly too tight. And I'm going to get a new pair that is better.

(6) Shot glass. I have 5 that are sentimental. This one isn't.

(7) Tan jacket. I got my beautiful Banana Republic trench coat in the mail on Friday. This tan quilted jacket is cheap and I only wear it because I don't have another brown/tan jacket. Now I have a gorgeous one.

Today I'm grateful for: apples and apple picking adventures.
